Content Management Systems

A content management system is the set of procedures used to manage workflow in a collaborative environment. These procedures are either manual or computer-based. The data in a CMS could be just about anything: documents, movies, photos, phone numbers, private numbers, scientific data, and so on. Content management systems are commonly used to control and rank documents and to control revisions to them; The content management system increases the version number with each modification to the file. Controlling reviews is one of the main features of a content management system.
It can also be defined as: integrated software packages that constitute a system for managing the content to be published and presented to site visitors and members, and provide tools to control the publishing process.
